Dave Sander's Trip

My brother Rick, pictured in the photos, and I had a great trip in spite of the cool weather.  We started (1/23) on the Natchez Trace near Coles Creek, then to Lorman and Union Church and headed to Brookhaven.  We had wanted to camp but it was colder than we had planned, for example, water was freezing in our bottles.  Brookhaven to Monticello and on to Prentiss on W St Stephen Road.  This was really quite a nice part of our ride with the sun setting as we came into Prentiss.

We spent the night resting comfortably after having a great meal on Friday night at the Country Fisherman.  Really was a treat for us Iowans to get a meal that good with such a S. Miss. taste; catfish, hushpuppies, greens, sweet potato pie, etc.

Saturday morning we started early down the Longleaf Trace with the maintenance team kindly blowing off the leaves ahead of us.  We met up with Herlon and chatted for a while.  You guys are doing a great job on this trail:  the rest areas, many nice overlooks with seating, even first aids kits.  With the connection into the Univ. completed you are really going to have it all.

We continued on and had a wild turkey fly overhead.  We had bisquits and gravy in Sumrall which got us into Hattiesburg.  We stopped at Moore's Bike Shop to repair some spokes and chat.  After the luxury of your trail, Hwy 42 to Richton and on to Turkey Fork was quite a contrast.  We made it to camp after dark and enjoyed a brisk sleep.  Sunday morning we headed to Leakesville which was the end of this ride.

You truly do have a gem of a trail,
All the Best and Have a Great Roll!
