The Long Leaf Trace Birthday Challenge will be held Saturday, November 17,
200l, in Prentiss, Mississippi on the Long Leaf Trace.   The trace is a 39
mile paved trail which begins in Prentiss at the Long Leaf Trace Park and is
complete to Hattiesburg. The trail portrays nature at its best as it
meanders through beautiful forests, crosses live streams and passes scenic
small lakes.  November is the peak month for fall foliage along the trace.
The event is to be noncompetitive and is open to bicyclers, roller bladers,
runners and walkers.  Participants are challenged to bike, roller blade, run
or walk one K (.62 Mile) for each year of their age as of November 17, 2001.
The trace will be marked in kilometers .  Aid will be provided 40K out and
40 K back.  Participants who choose to go beyond Sumrall (40-K out) must
provide their own fluids, food ,  first aid and needed support.  Support
will not be provided by individuals or groups associated with the event
beyond this distance.   Jimmy Moore of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, will
participate in the event as a challenge for his 80th birthday.  There will
be ten aid stations on the course.  Water and other fluids will be provided
approximately every three miles.  Food, fluids and limited first aid will be
provided  approximately every six miles and at the start and finish.  Long
Leaf Trace tee shirts, caps and other souvenirs  will be available at the
start and finish in Prentiss.  The Jefferson Davis County Chamber of
Commerce plans to offer on-site pork barbeque and other food as a fund
raiser.  The birthday celebration begins at 6:00 P. M. in the Long Leaf
Trace Park.   There will be no entry fee; however, donations will be
accepted to offset event costs. An entry form and release must be completed.
All bicyclers and roller bladers must wear helmets and other protective gear
as deemed necessary.  Runners and walkers must yield to bikers and roller
bladers.  The event is open to wheel chair entrants and other handicapped
individuals.  Entrants may preregister or register the day of the event at
